Are you building a new home or about to embark on a home improvement project? If yes, it’s useful to have a full understanding of one of the most commonly known standard construction materials used for wall finishing. It’s been used for over half a century primarily for interior walls and ceilings and can be referred to as plasterboard, wallboard or gypsum board.
What’s important is to work with a company that fully understands all of the many nuances of drywall and the various options available, especially since construction costs are rapidly rising. What is Drywall?
Drywall is a type of wallboard consisting of two sheets of thick paper sandwiched around a thin layer of gypsum plaster and is attached to metal or wood studs using nails or screws. Unlike plaster, no water is used for the installation process. Transporting drywall can be a challenge, but our drywall experts are well versed in the best processes to get your drywall safely to your project site.
A Little Bit of Drywall History
Way back in 1916 a man named Augustine Sackett invented drywall. He was trying to find a fire resistant solution to replace wood that was the common building material at the time. Once he discovered that drywall worked, he patented his invention and it quickly became a favorite material to be used by those in the construction industry. Interestingly enough, it was primarily used in military construction during World War II, but after that it started to be used in residential construction. Learn more here.
