As a homeowner, you may not even be aware of the Home Energy Rating system, but over time it has greatly gained in importance as new homes and buildings are routinely awarded certification that they have been given a H.E.R.S rating. Radiant Drywall & Insulation has trained and employed certified HERS raters for over a decade which is why so many architects, engineers, expediters, and homeowners choose Radiant Drywall & Insulation to perform this important inspection.
What is HERS?
The Home Energy Rating System (H.E.R.S.) Index is the national standard used to measure the energy efficiency of your home. Certified HERS rated homes are proven to have lower energy costs and higher appraisal values.

Why it Matters:
Being a certified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater, Radiant Drywall & Insulation is qualified to evaluate and measure your home’s energy efficiency. Our team of experts take precise measurements of your home’s current energy output. We then examine the entirety of the house’s structure in order to pinpoint where energy loss is occurring. Using this data to compile a comprehensive report, we review the information with you and find cost efficient ways to boost your home’s energy efficiency.
At Radiant Drywall & Insulation we also adhere to the strict standards set out by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET®), and pride ourselves on employing Eco-Friendly practices that benefit our customers and their surrounding communities.
We invite you to watch this informative video which helps to explain why The Lower the HERS Score, The Better the Home. It not only offers this concept in an easy to understand format, but also provides an important, but little known tip that when you are ready to purchase a home, you should book a HERS energy rating appointment in addition to the more well known home inspection.
How It Works
Project Rating
What many don’t realize is how detailed and intricate this process is from start to finish. Before the concrete truck even pulls up to pour the foundation, our Certified HERS Rater will assess the architectural plans in order to calculate a projected HERS Index score. This special rating will act as a guidepost throughout the entire process to keep the project on track and prevent costly errors.
Foundation
One of the most important areas that our HERS raters concentrate on is the foundation of the structure. Home foundations are notorious for having potential air leaks. We take special care to identify if there is an uneven foundation as it can lead to air leakage as the building process continues. If the top of the foundation isn’t flush with the many surrounding components, it can lead to drafts which in turn can decrease the overall energy efficiency of the structure.
Framing and Air Sealing
When a new home is built, it’s crucial that the frame properly fortifies the overall stability of the structure and in turn minimizes the potential for thermal bridging/heat transfer. Our certified experts are hired to inspect a frame upon completion to verify that all of the construction components are properly air sealed and up to code. This helps to not only protect the interior from hot and cold temperatures, but also high wind gusts.
Insulation System
While a home may look beautiful on the outside, it may be lacking the right insulation inside. A properly installed insulation system helps to increase the energy efficiency of a home’s heating and cooling system. Our certified HERS Raters are trained to ensure that all insulation materials are carefully fitted within each wall cavity and properly cropped around boxes, wires, pipes and any other affected areas.
Duct System
Many people don’t realize that leaky ducts can potentially be a contributing factor in decreasing the efficiency of your home’s cooling and heating systems by up to 20%. When properly installed, they serve to aid in the distribution of clean air throughout all floors of your home. Radiant Drywall & Insulation has certified energy raters who are trained to inspect your entire system and identify any troubled spots where air may be escaping.

The team at Radiant Drywall & Insulation take their responsibility seriously as certified HERS raters. That’s why for more than 55 years, from the initial blueprint to the finalized construction of a home, we perform a series of inspections to ensure that each part of the process goes smoothly.
