4 Signs That It’s Time to Replace Your Insulation

When your insulation wears out, there are many problems that can arise. From high energy bills because of indoor drafts to health risks caused by allergens or mold, old insulation can cause trouble for you and your home. Therefore, it’s important to know how to recognize when it’s time to replace your home’s insulation.

1. Your Home Has Inconsistent Temperatures

Old insulation can cause temperatures to fluctuate from one room in your house to the next. This usually results from heat being retained in rooms where the insulation is in good shape and heat escaping in rooms where the insulation needs to be replaced.

2. Your Energy Bills Keep Increasing for an Unknown Reason

If you’ve seen an extreme rise in your utility bills, but the weather is not unseasonably hot or cold, this could be a sign that your insulation is old because your heater or air conditioner needs to work harder to maintain the temperature inside your home.

3. You Have Household Pests

Insects and rodents usually like to nest in poorly sealed homes with worn-out insulation, particularly if the insulation is fiberglass because they can easily tear it apart to get into the house.

4. There is Moisture Intrusion

Water damage can ruin insulation, especially if it is not waterproof. If the water damage is not caught immediately, it can cause the insulation to become moldy. Mold contaminates the air, which can be hazardous to your health.
